Congratulations to the 2001 Straus Newspapers/Skyview Golf All Stars

Pope John won the regular season title in the Sussex County Interscholastic League and Sparta emerged as the SCIL Golf Festival champions. Both teams place two players on the 2001 Straus Newspapers/Skyview Golf All Star First Team as did Vernon.
Sparta claimed its second straight team title in the 2001 SCIL Golf Festival at the Port Jervis Country Club in the State of New York under second-year coach Jerry Carter. Nine strokes separated Sparta from runnerup Vernon while Jefferson senior Mike Egan fired a five-over-par 77 to win the individual crown with Sparta senior Kyle Helms occupying the runnerup slot with a 79.

Spartans claim SCIL Festival team title

Sparta claimed its first team title since 1995 as the Spartans won the 2000 SCIL Golf Festival on Wednesday at the Great Gorge Country Club in Vernon. Only nine strokes separated the first five teams while Wallkill Valley senior Kellen Watson fired a five-over-par 77 to edge Sparta sophomore Phil Marcellus for the individual crown.
Under first year coach Jerry Carter, the Spartans were led by Marcellus who posted a 37-41 for a 78 total senior co-captain Brian Kurylo finished sixth with a round of 39-41-80. Ryan Butler (41-43-84) and Kevin Quinn (41-43-84) tied for 15th to complete the Spartan team totals in the low four of five rounds format while Kyle Butler (38-38-86) tied for 19th.
