Wildcats Sports Highlights For Week Ending September 16, 2001

Boyle's hat trick effort spurs Wildcats

Laura Boyle turned in a hat trick performance to power High Point to an 8-0 rout of Lenape Valley in an SCIL girls soccer match played Wednesday in Wantage,. High Point exploded to build a 5-0 lead by halfime and went on to up its record to 2-0-1 while the Patriots remained winless in three outings.
Boyle netted three goals and was credited with an assist to highlight attack. Jamie Thompson chipped in with two goals and an assist while Tracy Fitzpatrick scored twice. Stefanie Almeida added a goal and assist with Emily Banta, Amanda Barrett and Ashley Larson picking up solo assists.
Meghan Radimer and Jenna VanderGroef shared the goal keeping assignment, combining on nine saves.
High Point defeated Wallkill Valley 3-2 in an SCIL girls tennis match on Wednesday. Tiffany Heineman, the Wildcats top player, dominated the action at first singles in defeating Jessie Auchter 6-1, 6-1. At third singles, Kathryn Pomeroy posted a 6-0, 6-4 triumph over Lauren Paich.
Katrina Gersie and Nicole Tracy provided the crucial third team point as they defeated Val Coronel and Tara Filippini 6-4, 6-2 in the second doubles slot.
Sarah Abbott led all runners to the finish, completing the 3.1-mile course in 22 minutes, 23 seconds as High Point edged Sparta 28-29 in a girls cross country meet. Sarah Kuzmiak finished third in 24 minutes, 8 seconds.
In the boys division, High Point pulled out a 25-31 win over the Spartans as Scott Melanson won the race in 19 minutes, 16 seconds. Brian Kopec (20:44) and Brian Witzig (20:51) finished 3-4.

Wildcats Sports Highlights For Week Ending September 9, 2001

Wildcats edged in OT

Sparta edged the Wildcats 2-1 in boys soccer. Both squads scored in the opening half with Joe Festa giving the Wildcats a 1-0 lead when he converted a pass from Josh Aukema into the first goal of the season 13 minutes into the game.
The Spartans knotted the score 13 minutes later before the netminders took over and the regulation clock came to a close with the score tied at 1-1. Sparta pulled out the victory four minutes into the OT period. Eric Murch, the Wildcats' keeper, turned in a strong effort between the pipes, coming up with 15 saves.
In SCIL girls tennis action, the Wildcats dropped a 4-1 decision to perennially powerful Sparta in the season opener played Friday in Sparta. Tiffany Heineman rolled to a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Katie Bowers in the No. 1 singles match to provide the Wildcats with their only team point. Ali Klemkops lost to Adrianna Fokshey at second singles and Jessica Choo fell to Katlin Masci in the No. 3 singles contest.
It was a three-set thriller at second doubles before the Wildcat tandem of Sarah Costello and Sarah Johnson dropped a 3-6, 6-3, 7-5 decision. In the No. 1 doubles match, High Point's Marilyn McGuire and Lindsay Pross fell to Nicole Bevacqua and Heather Leba by a score of 6-4, 6-4.
