Newton claims crown in SCIL Bowling Festival

Jackson dominates as Lady Braves rout Lions

Sheakia Jackson captured the spotlight as Newton cruised to a 79-41 triumph over Pope John in an SCIL girls' basketball game on February 10. Jackson turned in a double-double as the Lady Braves improved to 14-4.
Jackson tickled the twine with a game-high 25 points, pulled down 10 rebounds, distributed eight assists and picked off six steals. Amanda Dardaganis contributed 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds with Whitney Dugan popping 13 points into the basket and picking off six rebounds.
Andy Scrittorale netted a game-high 17 points, nine of which came in the opening period when Newton burst out to an 18-5 lead on the way to defeating Sparta 57-32 at the Henry Boresch Memorial Gym in Newton on February 13. Scott Allenspach popped a dozen points into the basket while Keith Jackson netted six points and pulled down eight boards.
Newton defeated Sparta 44-28 in an SCIL wrestling match on February 14. Jared Zappa (103), Dan Stanton (112), Matt Washer (160), Joe VanDerMark (189), Mike Walker (215) and Nick Mihail (275) produced pins for the Braves who improved to 8-6 overall.

Jackson’s 32 fuel Newton

Sheakia Jackson powered Newton to a 66-52 victory over Lenape Valley in an SCIL girls’ basketball game played in Newton on Friday night. Jackson and Whitney Dugan turned in double-double performances as the Lady Braves upped their overall record to 13-4.
Jackson tickled the twine with a season-high 32 points and pulled down 14 rebounds while Dugan netted 19 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Amanda Dardagamnis finished with eight points, eight boards and three blocks while Kelly Smith was credited with six assists.
Newton defeated Kittatinny 58-45 in an SCIL boys’ basketball encounter on Wednesday at Henry Boresch Memorial Gym. Keith Jackson led the Braves, popping 14 points into the bucket while Scott Allenspach and Andy Scrittorale netted a dozen points apiece.
Chris Boyd sprinted to a first place finish in the 50-meter freestyle, posting a time of 28.32 seconds and Jeff Williams was fastest to the finish wall in the 100-meter backstroke, touching in 1:17.16 but Newton dropped a 113-45 decision to High Point in an SCIL swim meet.
Stephanie Nunziato won the 100-meter butterfly in 1:25.25 and Alison Beverly finished first in the 200-meter individual but Newton was swamped 109-61 by High Point in the girls’ competition.
