2002 Pope John Invitational (12/07/02)

Jefferson's Kyle Silbernagel started the 2002-2003 scholastic swimming campaign
with a record-setting performance in the Pope John Invitational that was contested at Sussex Tech on Saturday.
Vernon's Kellyann Tomasula turned in a double gold medal performance in the girls' division.
Silbernagel splashed to a new meet record of 1:02.94 in winning the 100-meter butterfly. His Falcon teammate John
Adams was fastest to the finish wall in the 100-meter backstroke, touching in 1:04.18.
Pope John won the B Division of the girls' competition as the Lions placed first in two of the three relay races.
The quartet of Meghan and Tara McCormick along with Amanda and Dana DeSantis won the opening event, the 200-meter
medley relay with a clocking of 2:13.81. Dana DeSantis was joined by Ashley Ferguson, Alexandra Colvin and Casey
Hambel in winning the 200-meter freestyle relay with a time of 2:03.70. Megan McCormick picked up the gold medal
in the 200-meter individual medley when she was clocked in 2:40.43 while Tara was first to touch in the 100-meter
breaststroke, posting the winning time of 1:19.31.
Tomasula produced a gold medal effort in the 100-meter butterfly with a clocking of 1:10.70 and came back later
to complete a double when she posted the gold medal clocking of 1:11.09 in the 100-meter backstroke. Tomasula was
selected the sportsinthegardenstate.com/Sussex County Swimmer of the Week for her efforts.
Lenape Valley's Matt Wozniak sprinted to a gold medal finish in the 50-meter freestyle, touching in 25.92 seconds
while Pope John's Mathew Sior win the 100-meter breaststroke in 1:15.25. |
