Scott Lotosky had an impressive outing as he began his senior campaign pitching
and batting Sparta to a 6-0 victory over Midland Park in a non-league baseball game played in Midland Park to open
the 2004 diamond season.
Lotosky went the route, surrendering a pair of singles as he shut out the Panthers of the Bergen-Passaic Scholastic
League. He whiffed nine batters and walked only two while aiding his own cause at the plate, connecting for a pair
of singles in three official plate appearances, driving in a run. He was named the sussexcountyinterscholasticleague.com/Richards
and Summers Player of the Week.
Dan Mastriani doubled in a run in the fifth and Ramadon Mehmedi also legged out a two-bagger. Bobby Ryan connected
for a pair of singles, plating a run in the sixth.
Sparta blanked Pope John 5-0 in an SCIL boys' tennis match. Andrew Wang, the Spartans' ace of staff, breezed to
a 6-0, 6-1 win over Marco Guadagnini in the No. 1 singles confrontation. Patrick Castronovo coasted to a 6-1, 6-2
triumph against Matt Carnisti at second singles and Logan Hirsch completed the straight set sweep of the singles
competition with a 6-2, 6-3 win over John Aiello in the No. 3 singles slot.
Sparta dropped a 163-174 decision to Vernon in the opening match of the SCIL golf season at Lake Mohwak. Andy
Kirschenbaum posted the low nine-hole round of 42 for the Spartans while Ryan Johnson and Peter VerDorn carded
rounds of 43. |
