Sparta claimed its third Sussex County Interscholastic League football title with an SCIL mark of 8-1 and an overall record of 9-2. The Spartans first two titles came in 1980 and 1982 and they shared the crown with Pope John in 1979 and were part of three-way tie for the title in 2000 with Pope John and Vernon. The core of strength on the roster was 19 seniors. They were Jim Berkley, Brad Bogert, Tom Buechel, Jason Cook, Erik Hansen, Anthony Infante, Jim Kevil, Steve Leonard, Jake Lupo, Anthony Mauriello, Matt McCann, Andrew McGregor, Rich Mendes, John Mickey, Grant Morrow, Jose Ramirez, P.J. Shea, Don Smith and Curtis Taylor.
