Santonastaso bronze medal effort spurs Cougars
Andrea Santonastaso turned in a bronze medal effort as she paced Kittatinny
to the team title in the Sophomore Girls Division of the Roxbury Cross Country Invitational contested at Horseshoe
Park in Succasunna on Saturday. The Cougars edged runnerup Ridge 34-37 with Hillsborough in third place with 69
points.
A sophomore, Santonastaso was clocked in 21 minutes, 7 seconds as she finished in third place behind Ridge's Kim
Philhower and Roxbury's Sara Huckbody. Her teammate Katy Nolan finished in fourth place, posting a time of 21 minutes,
15 seconds. The other Cougar runners were Alison Estock (22:32), Laura Swofford (22:41) and Nicole Becker (22:58).
In the frosh girls division, Kittatinny's Kim Kraemer finished sixth with a time of 15 minutes, 25 seconds.

In the Suffern Invitational held at Bear Mountain State Park in Harriman, Wallkill Valley's James Western finished
eighth in 16 minutes, 50 seconds and at the St. Dominic Academy Invitational in Hudson County, Pope John placed
fourth in the girls division and eight in the boys competition.
Hopatcong defeated Sparta 21-39 in an SCIL girls dual meet on Thursday as Kira McGroaryt won the event easily with
a time of 20 minutes, 13 seconds. Her teammate Jacquie Sobotka was runnerup with a time of 22 minutes, 43 seconds.
Sparta's top runners were Lindsey Larson who finished in 24 minutes, 39 seconds and Lauren Shea who was timed in
24 minutes, 59 seconds.
High Point routed Newton 15-49 in a boys dual meet as Jason Salvador broke the tape in 17 minutes, 44 seconds to
lead the Wildcats. Jeremy Apgar (19:54) and Brian Witzig (19:57) finished 2-3 for High Point.
