Miller notches 6th shutout

Greg Miller regsistered his sixth shutout of the season as Sparta blanked Jefferson 5-0 in a SCIL boys soccer match. Miller came up with three saves and was chosen the sussexcountyinterscholasticleague.com/Eastern Propane Player of the Week as Sparta imprived to 6-0-2. Rob Arena, Kyle Behrendt, Keith Huettenmoser, Tommy McCormick and Rafael Millan netted goals with Mark Huelsenbeck credited with a pair of assists. Behrendt, Ricky Brown and Nic Heckman dished off assists.
Wallkill Valley edged Newton 1-0 as Mike Radino made two saves for the Rangers to record the shutout. Emilio Tirri snapped a scoreless stalemate in the second half when he scored the game-winner off assists from Gio Rivera and ravis Wenz.
Dustin VanderGroef turned aside six official shots on goal as High Point blanked Lenape Valley 2-0. Alex Malcom supplied the firepower, scoring twice to up his season total to eight goals. He put the Wildcats on the board two minutes into the game off an assist from Drew Styer and produced an insurance tally in the second half when he scored on a penalty kick.
Vernon shutout Hopatcong 4-0 as Conrad Rusnak made two saves. Kyle Wallburn netted two goals with Ethan Eustace and Andrew Tarantino netting solo goals. Eric Card contributed a pair of assists with Eustace and Jesse Lowends picking up assists.
Eric Gionzalez netted the game-winning tally in overtime as Kittatinny rallied from a 3-0 deficit to edge Pope John 4-3. Nick Montella and Kris Steingall fot the Cougars on the board before Pat Spaulding deadlocked the game with eight minutes remaining in regulation.

Eric Gonzalez fueled the attack as Kittatinny roared to a 5-0 victory over Butler in Hampton. Gonzalez scored twice and contributed a pair of assists as he was chosen the sussexcountyinterscholasticleague.com/Eastern Propane Player of the Week. The win raised the Cougars record to 4-7-1. Justin Jones put Kittatinny on the board 10 minutes into the match with Gonzalez picking up an assist. Gonzales scored two minutes later off an assist from Kris Steingall and garnered a second assist when Mustafa Adiguzelli scored with three minutes remaining on the first half clock. Gonzalez and Adiguselli scored off of penalty kicks in the second half while keeper Brandt Memmelaar made six saves to register the shutout in the goal.
Lenape Valley defeated Dickinson (Jersey City) 3-1 in the first round of the West Hudson County Cup on Saturday. Nick Scheibner put the Patriots on the board with seven minutes left in the first half as Anthony Mainero picked up an assist. Spencer Koenig netted the game-winning tally 10 minutes into the second half off an assist from Jeremy Pizzaro with Jhourman Atehourta adding an insurance tally with 10 minutes left on the game clock.
Connor Phalon scored twice and dished off an assist on a goal by Pat Maloney which proved to be the game-winner as Pope John defeated Hopatcong 3-1. Phalon netted the first goal of the game with 15 minutes remaining in the first half off an assist from Dan Ponnwitz.
Wallkill Valley defeated Jefferson 2-1 when Travis Wenz converted a cross from John Ramos into the game-winner with 14 minutes remaining in the second half. Geo Rivera, the SCIL's leading scorer, netted his 15th goal of the season to put the Rangers into a 1-0 lead by halftime.

Malcom powers Wildcats in OT

High Point has gone to overtime in four straight games, tying three and posting a 3-2 win over Newton on Tuesday at St. Paul's Abbey in Newton. On Friday, the Wildcats battled Kittatinny to a scoreless draw following two scoreless OT periods.
In the win over the Braves, senior Alex Malcolm made a impressive return after being sidelined by an ankle injury suffered in the opening game. Trailing 2-1 at the halftime break, Malcolm netted the tying goal in the second half to send the outcome to overtime. In the second OT period, Malcolm headed a cross from Frank Mobilio into the Braves' teepee for the game-winning tally and has been named the sussexcountyinterscholasticleague.com/Eastern Propane Player of the Week. Shane Bosms scored the Wildcats' first goal at 29:47 sandwiched around a pair of Newton goals by Luke Sperling.
Vernon edged Scotch Plains-Fanwood 1-0 in a mild upset when James Gibson headed in a cross off a free kick from Andrew Tarantino for the only tally as the Union County powerhouse suffered its first seyback after five wins. Goalie Conrad Rusnak stopped nine shots on goal as Vernon improved to 4-1-1.
Trailing 1-0, Lenape Valley rebounded with back-to-back-to-back goals and defeated Hopatcong 3-2. Anthony Mainero scored twice with Tom Benack chipping in with a goal and assist as the Patriots upped their record to 3-2. Brandon Huling and Luis Silva tallied goals for the Chiefs who dropped to 1-3-2.
Greg Miller stopped six shots on goal as Sparta edged Walkill Valley 1-0 in overtime to up its record to 4-0-1. Tommy McCormick headed in a chip shot from Rob Arena in the second OT period.
Pope John rolled to a 4-1 win over Jefferson in Sparta. Pat Maloney tallied a pair of goals with Courtney Morris adding a goal and assist. Peter Altenburg had opened the scoring for the Lions with less than six minutes remaining until the halftime break while Connor Phalon was credited with two assists.

Newton’s Spence posts shutout between the pipes

Phil Spence turned in a perfect performance between the posts as Newton blanked Pope John 2-0 in a Sussex County Interscholastic League boys’ soccer match on Thursday. The Braves’ goalie, Spence came up with 13 saves as the Lions outshot the Braves 13-11. Spence was named the sussexcountyinterscholasticleague.com/Eastern Propane Player of the Week
Luke Sperling netted an unassisted goal 11:39 into the game and Dan Ehehalt added an insurance tally at 21:41 off an assist from Dan Fulmer as the Braves upped their record to 3-1.
Conrad Rasnak pitched a shutout between the pipes as Vernon blanked Jefferson 3-0. E.J. Clark, Andrew Tarantino and Matt Zinn tallied unassisted goals as the Vikings raised their record to 2-0-1.
High Point and Hopatcong battled to a 2-2 tie on Thursday. Drew Styer opened the scoring off an assist from Matt Hlavaty 6:25 into the game and Frank Mobilio netted the tying goal unassisted with less than three minutes remaining until intermission. Keeper Dustin Vandergroef stopped 10 shots on goal.
Keeper Greg Miller stopped seven shots on goal as Sparta shut out Lenape Valley 3-0. Following a scoreless first half, Luis Velez tallied the game-winning goal eight minutes after intermission off an assist from Rafael Millan. Mark Huelsenback and Kyle Behrendt up the margin to three goals later in the second half.
Geo Rivera’s hat trick effort was produced in the first half as Wallkill Valley blanked Kittatinny 3-0. Rivera opened the scoring three minutes into the game with Jeff Posplech picking up an assist. Rivero’s second tally came at 17:30 with an assist from Emilio Tirri before the Rivero-Posplech connection finished the scoring seven minutes before the halftime break. Goalie Mike Radino made four saves.

Tarantino leads Lions' attack

Andrew Tarantino keyed the Vikings' attack on the opening day of the 2005 SCIL boys' soccer season. Tarantin netted the third goal of the game and dishing off assists of the other goals as Vernon blanked Pope John 4-0. Eric Card netted the only goal of the first half at 28:00. Tarantino was chosen the sussexcountyinterscholasticleague.com/Eastern Propane Player of the Week.
Sparta outshot Kittatinny 13-9 in defeating the Cougars 3-1 on opening day in Hampton. The Spartans surged to a 3-0 lead by the intermission on goals by Rob Arena, Kyle Behrendt and Keith Huettenmoser. Keeper Greg Miller stopped eight shots on goal for the Spartans.
John Ramos led Wallkill Valley to a 4-1 win over High Point in Wantage as he netted the first two goals of the game and assist on Geo Rivera's tally as the Rangers jumped out to a 3-0 lead by the break. Rivera added a second goal with five minutes left in the game.
Alex Malcolm provided the offensive firepower as High Point defeated Saddle Brook in a non-league match on Saturday as the Wildcats evened their record at 1-1. Trailing 1-0, Malcolm deadlocked the contest at 27:27 and assist on Frank Mobilio's game-winning tally at 36:31. Malcolm added a insurance goal at 60:34 and Drew Styer completed the scoring with five minutes remaining in the game. Shane Bosma picked up assists on the final two goals while Dustin Vandergroef picked up the "W" in the goal, making four saves.
Lenape Valley rolled to a 5-1 win over Jefferson as Spencer Koenig scored the first two goals of the season, both in the first half when the Patriots moved out to a three-goal advantage. Johrman Athhortua, Anthony Fonsecca and Jeremy Pizarro added solo goals for LVR.
Newton defeated Hopatcong 4-1 as Brian Kedash scored twice and passed off an assist. Dan DiMarzo netted a goal and dished off a pair of assists with Dan Fomer adding an insurance goal with 20 minutes remaining.
