Nann nets four goals as Rangers advance to sectional final

Amanda Nann dominated the action as Walkill Valley toppled Northern Valley/Demarest 5-2 in the semifinals of the NJSIAA North Jersey, Section 1, Group II girls' field hockey tournament. Nann netted four goals as the Rangers boosted their sparkling record to 14-2 and clash with Pequannock on Monday (November 6) for the sectional title. Nann was chosen the SCIL/Richards and Summers Player of the Week. Senior Nicole Travolta put the Rangers on the board five minutes into the game only to have the Norsewomen of the North Bergen Interscholastic Athletic League knot the score two minutes later. Nann netted two goals to give Wallkill Valley a 3-1 lead at the halftime break and added a pair of second-half goals, raising her season total to 33. Kara Buda, Jami Gagg, Lauren Sweller and Travolta dished off assists while goalkeeper Samantha Nann stopped 11 official shots.
High Point was defeated in the North Jersey, Group III championship game by Morristown on Saturday when the Colonials rolled to a 4-0 victory. Keeper Lauren Fasano made 11 saves. The Wildcats had advanced to the title round by edging Mount Olive 2-1 on Wednesday. Jess Grimm and Becky Penhacker netted first half goals with Kaiti Robertazzi dishing off assists on both scores.
Kittatinny defeated Pope John 3-1 in a SCIL encounter on Wednesday as goalie Kelly McCaskill came up with six saves. Grace Esposito, Maxine Mitjans and Alex Polizzo scored for the Cougars with Lauren Nicomini dishing off two assists.

Markferding pitches back-to-back shutouts

Goalkeeper Samantha Markferding recorded back-to-back shutouts as Lenape Valley blanked Jefferson 3-0 and Hopatcong 6-0 to raise its overall record to 13-5. Markferding came up with four saves against the Falcons and stopped three shots by the Chiefs as she was chosen the SCIL/Richards and Summers Player of the Week. Lisa Duckles scored twice and Samantha Sieka once in the win over Jefferson. Kristen Pridgen netted two goals and dished off an assist in the win over Hopatcong with Duckles, Brit Holl, Tempe Newson and Danielle Sangillo adding solo goals.
Newton clinched its 14th SCIL field hockey title and third in the last four years with a 5-0 blanking of Sparta. Natalie Elvidge, a senior midfielder, scored twice with Kelly Churchill, Amanda Miller and Kim Parks adding solo goals. Dani Jones stopped three shots on goal to register her 13th shutout of the campaign as the Braves boosted their overall record to 17-1.
Lauren Nicomini posted a hat trick effort as Kittatinny squeaked out a 3-2 victory over Jefferson on Thursday. Melissa Kistle picked up the assist on the game-winning tally while Kelly Lampeter and Maxine Mitjans were credited with assists.
High Point edged Vernon 3-2 to improve to 10-7-0. Samantha Gardner, Becky Penhaker and Corey Van Orden scored for the Wildcats while Amanda Matos netted both Viking goals.

Kittatinny romped to a 9-0 triumph over Hopatcong as Lauren Nicomini netted two goals and dished off an assist. Nicomini was chosen the SCIL/Richards and Summers Player of the Week. Sarah Bates, Grace Esposito, Milissa Kistle, Kelly Lampeter, Lauren McArthur, Kelsey Roberts and Hope Schlesser contributed goals. Christy Abrams, Batesm Lampeter, Mitjans, Alex Polizzo and Schlesser added assists.
High Point edged Jefferson 3-2 in overtime despite a pair of goals by the Falcons' Jessica Galfo. Samantha Bell and Christine Van Orden scored for the Wildcats who won in OT when Caitlyn Orr scored with 7:48 remaining in the extra period. Kaiti Robertazzi dished off two assists with Becky Penhacker picking up an assist.
Newton had to go to shootout to up its record to 14-1 by edging Kittatinny 2-1. Devon Westra put the Braves on the board 2:29 into the game before Maxine Mitjans knotted the score in the second half. Amanda Miller connected on a pair of penalty strokes to produce the victory.
Pope John edged Jefferson 3-2 in a match decided by the shoot out format. Meredith Harclerode and Kelly Walsh scored in regulation with Walsh picking up an assist for the Lady Lions. Natalie Sutherland drilled a penalty stroke into the Falcons' cage to win the contest.

Wildcats post back-to-back wins

High Point edged Kittatinny 3-2 as Corey Van Orden tallied the game-winning goal with four minutes remaining on the regulation clock. Melinda Bellis and Caitlin Orr chipped in with goals while Sarah Bell, Bellis, Becky Penhacker and Orr were credited with assists.Two days earlier, Penhaker turned in a hat trick performance, scoring three times the Wildcats routed Hopatcong 8-1. Penhaker was chosen the SCIL/Richards and Summers Player of the Week. Orr added two goals with Bell, Bellus and Jessica Hanley adding solo goals. Jess Grimm dished off a pair of assists while Bell and Bellis were credited with one apiece.
Pope John snapped a 1-1 stalemate when Meredith Harclerode, a senior right inner, scored from the top of the scoring circle with 8:19 remaining on the game clock as the Lions edged Lenape Valley 2-1. Kelly Walsh scored in the first half off a feed from Harclerode while goalkeeper Gabby Luongo made six saves. Lisa Duckles netted a first half goal for LVR with goalie Samantha Markferding stopping three shots.
Newton romped to a 5-0 blanking of Vernon as Amanda Miller tallied a pair of goals and dished off an assist. Kelly Churchill, Lenna Grityohanna and Tori Matyola added so goals while Lisa Granwehr, Chelsea Kahn and Maytola were credited with assists. Goalie Dani Jones stopped three shots to record the shutout.
Jefferson surged to a 6-0 lead by halftime and coasted to a 6-1 triumph over Hopatcong as goalie Kristi Batche made four saves. Jess Galfo, Jenna Kral, Stephanie Small, Jess Takatsuki, Taylro Troutman and Eryn Veninata scored goals for the Falcons who improved to 6-7 in a bid to qualify for the NJSIAA playoffs.

Fasano records 17 saves in upset of LVR

Goalkeeper Lauren Fasano excelled between the pipes, stopping 17 shots on goal to spur High Point to a 4-2 upset over Lenape Valley in a Sussex County Interscholastic League field hockey match on Friday. The win raised the Wildcats record to 5-5 and kept them in contention for a NJSIAA post-season playoff berth while the Patriots dropped to 7-2. Fasano was chosen the SCIL/Richards and Summers Player of the Week. Becky Pehacker and Corey Van Orden scored two goals apiece with Kaiti Robertazzi dishing off a pair of assists. Sarah Bell, Samantha Gardner and Jess Grimm were also credited with assists.
The following day, Lenape Valley rocked Hopatcong 8-1 as Lisa Duckles scored twice and dished off an assist. Krystra Arbolina and Kelly Huber chipped in with a goal and assist apiece while Alicia Gallagher, Britt Holl, Tempe Newson and Kristen Pridgeon completed the scoring parade.
Meredith Harclerode netted a pair of goals as Pope John blanked Hopatong 3-0 on Friday. Megan Hoffnagle also scored with Mallory Clark picking up an assist while goalie Gabby Luong made one official save.
Dani Jones came up with five saves as Newton shut out Jefferson 1-0. Amanda Miller tallied the only goal in the second half off a feed from Kelly Chruchill.
Kaitlin Umstead stopped seven shots on goal as Vernon blanked Sparta 2-0. Amanda Matos and Lyndsey Morris scored with Melissa Starkpole recording an assist.

Jones pitches back-to-back shutouts

Keeper Dani Jones stopped four shots on goal as unbeaten Newton blanked winless Sparta 3-0 on Friday after the teams battled to a scoreless stalemate by intermission. Tori Matyola, Amanda Miller and Kim Parks scored for the Braves with Lisa Granwehr distributing a pair of assists. Natalie Elvidge added an assist as Newton improved to 7-0. Three days earlier, Jones made six saves as Newton edged Pope John 1-0 and was chosen the SCIL/Richards and Summers Player of the Week. Amanda Miller netted the only goal in the second half off a feed from Devon Westra.
Abby Tilton turned in a hat trick effort was Wallkill Valley defeated High Point 6-3 on Tuesday. Tilton tallied three goals while Amanda Nann chipped in with a pair of goals and an assist. Jess Petronacci added a solo goal with Kara Buda picking up three assists.
Melinda Bellis scored twice as High Point defeated Vernon 3-1 on Friday. Caitlyn Orr added a solo goal with Becky Penhaker was credited with a pair of assists. Goalkeeper Lauren Fasano came up with 13 saves.
Kittatinny squeaked out a 1-0 triumph over Jefferson as Lauren Nicomini scored the only goal in the second half with an assist from Melissa Kistle. Goalie Kally McCaskill made three saves to record the shutout "W" between the pipes.

Buda chosen SCIL Player of the Week

Wallkill Valley's Kara Buda exploded for five goals and distributed an assist to ignite the Rangers to a 8-0 rout of Vernon. Buida was chosen the SCIL/Richards and Summers Player of the Week. Amanda Nann also produced a hat trick effort, scoring three goals and picking up four assists while her sister Samantha Nann stopped two shots to earn the shutout "W" between the pipes.
Kelly McCaskill pitched a shutout between the pipes as Kittatinny routed Hopatcong 7-0. Lauren Nicomini netted two goals and dished off a pair of assists while Maxine Mitjans scored twice and picked up an assist. Alex Polizzo added a goal and assist while Hope Schlaffer and Kayla Van Osten tallied goals. Christy Abrams, Grace Esposito and Brianna Fitzpatrick were credited with assists.
Pope John edged Jefferson 1-0 as Gabby Luongo stopped six shots on goal. Megan Hoffnagle netted an unassisted goal in the second half.
Newton edged Lenape Valley 2-1 I double overtime in a clash that started with both squads unbeaten at 4-0. Brittany Holl gave the Patriots an early lead before Kelly Churchill knotted the game before the halftime break off a feed from Aamnda Miller. Newton picked up the victory on a penalty stroke format following a scoreless OT period.
