Fugowski sparks Vikings

Elise Fugowski played key roles as Vernon blanked Jefferson 6-0 and defeated Sparta 2-1 in SCIL girls soccer matches. Fugowski was chosen the sussexcountyinterscholasticleague.com/Eastern Propane Player of the Week after dishing off three assists in the win over the Falcons and netting both goals in the victory over the Spartans. Mandy Costello, Jackie McGrath and Nicole Piela scored two goals apiece as the Vikings surged to a four-goal advantage by the halftime break in the victory over Jefferson. Amy Buffalino and Jerico Lavooy picked up assists while Alicia Yaccarino and Ale Potosnik combined to come up with five saves in sharing credit for the shutout. Fugowski gave the Vikings a 1-0 lead just before halftime in Sparta and tallied the game-winner 15 minutes into the second half when she converted a penalty kick. Yaccarino stopped a dozen shots on goal.
Jessica Lain scored on a breakaway with five seconds remaining before intermission as Elise McEvoy picked up an assist to spur High Point to a 1-0 win over Pope John. Keeper Ashley Enste stopped a dozen official shots on goal to record the shutout between the pipes.
Cindy LaRosa snapped a scoreless stalemate 26 minutes into the second half and Jessie Castillo followed with a pair of insurance goals as Hopatcong blanked Kittatinny 3-0. Justine Karinja was busy between the posts as she came up with 16 saves to preserve the shutout.
Pope John defeated Newton 3-1 as the Lions won for the 15th time against one loss. Courtney Flanagan tallied the only goal of the first half with an assist from Emily Carrollo who scored the game-winner with six minutes remaining on the game clock off an assist from Alex Cumello. Less than two minutes later, Cumello added an insurance goal off an assist from Katie Bigay.

DiPaolo scores four times

Lenape Valley’s Tricia DiPaolo scored four times as Lenape Valley blanked Kittatinny 6-0 in an SCIL girls’ soccer matchon Tuesday in Stanhope. The win was the seventh against three setbacks for the Lady Patriots as DiPaolo was chosen the sussexcountyinterscholasticleague.com/Eastern Propane Player of the Week. DiPaolo delivered the game-winner six minutes into the contest when she converted a penalty kick. She scored off a second penalty kick 13 minutes later and added a pair of insurance goals in the second half. Danielle Johnson added two goals with assists on both from her sister Kristen while keeper Delia Pavlichko came up with four saves to record her fourth shutout of the campaign
Goalie Vickie Ziolkowski came up with 16 saves as Wallkill Valley blanked Jefferson 2-0 in Hardyston. It was the third shutout for Ziolkowski while Diana Gazzano and Sarah Hildebrand supplied the goals with Cara Radino dishing off both assists.
Ashley Enste turned aside eight shots on goal as High Point shut out Vernon 2-0. Sasha Scott snapped a scoreless stalemate four minutes into the second half and Jessica Lain added an insurance tally off a penalty kick with 13 minutes remaining on the game clock. Vernon’s keeped Alicia Yaccarino recorded seven saves.
Pope Joihn snapped a scoreless battle with two goals in the second half as the Lions defeated Blair Academy 2-0. Alex Cumella netted the game-winner 14 minutes into the second half off an assist from goalie Erin Guthrie who was credited with five saves. Christina Stassi added an insurance tally 13 minutes with Courtney Flanagan picking up an assist.

Jessica Tate scored off an assist from Liz Ashman to knot the score and dished off an assist on Teresa Espsito's game-winning tally 12 minutes into the second half. Nicole Silvent excelled between the pipes for the Falcons, turining aside 16 shots on goal.
High Point defeated Lenape Valley 3-1 as Jessica Lain scored twice and dished off an assist on the goal by teammate Ashley Sanborn. Shannon McEvoy was credited with assist while Wildcat keeper Ashley Enst was credited with seven assists.
Amy Lupfer scored the only goal as Newton edged Wallkill Valley 1-0 with Anna Petersen credited with an assist. Heather Harold, the Braves goalie, made nine saves.

Overland's goal sinks Lady Vikings in OT

Brittany Overland scored with 70 seconds remaining in the second overtime period to lift Newton to a 2-1 victory over Vernon in an SCIL girls' soccer match played Wednesday in Vernon. The win evened the Braves' record at 2-2-1 while the Vikings dropped to 1-4. Following a scoreless stalemate in the first half, Vernon got on the board 17:15 into the second half on a goal by Mandy Castello with an assist from Elise Fugowski. With 10 minutes remaining in regulation, Anna Petersen tied the game with an unassisted goal. Newton's goalie Heather Harow made 14 saves while Vernon's keeper Kayla Macerino came up with 11.
Sparta routed Hopatcong 7-1 as Danielle Jacobs posted a hat trick effort. She scored three times, including the first tally of eight minutes into the game and was chosen the sussexcountyinterscholasticleague.com/Eastern Propane Player of the Week, Kayla Kretchmer and Monica Stegman tallied two goals apiece to complete the scoring parade.
Tricia DiPaolo scored twice in leading Lenape Valley to a 2-0 win over Hopatcong. DiPaolo scored 17 minutes into the game and added an insurance tally with 13 minutes remaining. Goalie Delia Pavlichko recorded a pair of saves in posting the shutout.
Wallkill Valley edged Sparta 2-1 on Wednesday, handing the Lady Spartans their first setback of the season. Kathleen Paiva scored the game-winning tally off a cross from Diana Gazzano in the second half to snap a 1-1 stalemate. Kerri Wisneski opened the scoring in the first half with an assist from Sarah Hildebrand before Stegman tied the game for Sparta 12 minutes into the second half.
Sophomores Jessica Lain and Ashley Sanborn continue to have a positive impact on the High Point season. On Wednesday, Lain scored once and assisted on a pair of goals by Sanborn in a 3-0 victory over Kittatinny. Two days earlier, it was the same combination of two goals and an assist by Sanborn plus a goal and two assists by Lain in a 5-0 romp over Newton.

Wildcats rout Chiefs

High Point roared to a 7-0 victory over Hopatcong as the Wildcats won their third straight in SCIL girls’ soccer action. Keeper Ashley Enste had to make only two saves to record the shutout "W" in the goal. Jessica Lain and Ashley Sanborn tallied two goals apiece with Johanna Cerutti, Leanna Clausen and Shannon McEvoy adding solo goals.
On Wednesday, the Wildcats clawed Vernon 4-1 after trailing 1-0 until three minutes remained in the first half. Lain scored twice with Ashley Carter and Sanborn chipping in with goals.
Vernon won its first girls' soccer game of the season on Friday afternoon when keeper Alexandra Potosnak came up with five saves to shutout Jefferson 3-0. Elise Fuigowski, a junior, netted back-to-back goals three minutes apart in the first half and Madny Castello added an insurance tally with less than 13 minutes remaining on the game clock. Jerrica Lavooy picked up an assist.
Wallkill Valley snapped a scoreless deadlock when junior Kathleen Paiva netted the game-winning tally four minutes into the first OT period off an assist from senior Diana Gazzano. Two days earlier, Paiva tallied her first two goals of the season as the Lady Rangers edged Jefferson 2-1. Erika Simmons and Sarah Hildebrand picked up assists.
Sparta edged Lenape Valley 6-5 in overtime when Monica Stegman tallied her second goal of the game 65 seconds into OT. Trish DiPaulo netted four goals in the first half when LVR opened up a 4-1 lead by intermission. Sparta rebounded with four straight goals in the second half, one by Stegman and two by Rachel Molina off assists from Stegman plus one by Danielle Jacobs. Stegman was chosen sussexcountyinterscholasticleague.com/ Eastern Propane Player of the Week.
Newton and Sparta had battled to a 3-3 standoff after a pair of scoreless OT periods on Wednesday. Stegman, Danielle D’Avanco and Kayla Kretchmer tallied goals for the Spartans while Kossie Flamouropolous, Anna Peterson and Magdaelna Recalde scored for the Braves

Zander defuses Chiefs

Brooke Zander exploded, netting four goals in the opening half to propel Newton to a 6-1 triumph over Hopatcong on opening day of the SCIL girls' soccer season Friday in Hopatcong. Zander was chosen the sussexcountyinterscholasticleague.com/Eastern Propane Player of the Week.
Anna Peterson assisted on both goals as Laura Moore and Magdaelna Recalde scored in the second half to pad the advantage to six goals before Ashly Twyman scored for the Chiefs.
Jesse Linn tallied the only goal of the game with an assist from Elise McEvoy as High Point edged Wallkill Valley 1-0. Keeper Ashley Eoste turned aside five shots on goal to record the shutout "W" between the posts. The Rangers' goalie, Vicky Ziotkowski, came up with 14 saves.
Danielle Jacons posted a hat trick effort, scoring the first three goals of the season as Sparta blanked Kittatinny 4-0. Margaret Carberry added an insurance tally in the second half while keeper Virginia Buechel earned credit for the shutout in the goal by stopping nine shots.
Kristen Johnson headed in the lone tally of the game with 11 minutes remaining to give Lenape Valley a 1-0 win over Jefferson. Delia Pavlichko stopped 11 shots to post the shutout.
Emily Carrrollo scored twice in the first half as Pope John defeated Vernon 3-1. Christina Stassi added an insurance tally in the second half and goalie Erin Guthrie was credited with five saves.
