Chegwidden races to sectional gold Published in Straus Newspapers - 11/09/06 Wallkill Valley's Aimee Chegwidden turned in a gold medal performance at the NJSIAA North Jersey, Section 1 Cross-Country Championships contested Saturday morning at Garret Mountain in West Paterson. Chegwidden was fastest to the finish in the Group II girls' 5000-meter race, running through the tape in 19:39 as she picked up her fourth sectional gold medal. Chegwidden moved on to the NJSIAA Group II Championships on Saturday at Holmdel Park in Monmouth County. The top five teams and 10 individuals in each of the four sectional meets in each of the four groups advance and Chegwidden enters the competition with the sixth fastest clocking on Group II. Her sister Kaitlin picked up the bronze medal in the event with a time of 20:11 and was named the SCIL/Main Street 5K Runner of the Week. In the Group II boys' division, Kittatinny's Sam McMullen posted a silver medal effort with a clocking of 16:52 while Hopatcong's Kyle Vaughn garnered the bronze medal with the third fastest time of 16:55. Vaughn was picked at the SCIL/Main Street 5K Runner of the Week. The Road to the Gold that ends on November 18 at the NJSIAA Meet of Champions also has the following local runners gaining berths in Saturday's group champions include Group I - Michael Deteridge (Sussex Tech); Group II - Connor Grant (Jefferson), Dan West (Hopatcong) and Ian Scott (Wallkill Valley); Megan Murnane (Lenape Valley); Group III - Stacey Lepes (High Point), Samantha Brummell (High Point) and Danielle Czohla (High Point). Scheid wins SCIL title in record time; Heigis three-peats Published in Straus Newspapers - 10/26/06 Pope John's Jeremy Scheid was fastest to the finish and in the process snapped his older brother's meet record in winning the boys division of the 2006 SCIL Cross-Country Festival contested at the Sussex County Fairgrounds on Saturday. Scheid raced through the tape in 25:35.25 to better his brother Justin's record established in 2003 by two seconds. With five runners placing among the top seven finishers, it was no contest for the team title as the Lions posted 18 points to 101 by runnerup Vernon. In the varsity girls' division, Pope John's Lara Heigis three-peated as SCIL champion, turning in a clocking of 17:55.32 as she broke the 18-minute barrier for the first time. Pope John claimed the team title while High Point edged Wallkill Valley by a single point for second place. Stacey Lepes was the first Wildcat to finish, placing fifth in 19:03.92. Matt Pezzulo of Pope John won the junior varsity boys race in 17:12 while High Point's Amanda Porrispita placed first in the girls JV competition with a clocking of 22:25. Pope John's Scheid captures gold in Shore Coaches Invitational Published in Straus Newspapers - 10/12/06 Pope John's Jeremy Scheid was fastest to the finish in the varsity boys Division E 5000-meter run in the Shore Coaches Cross-Country Invitational contested on Saturday at Holmdel Park in Monmouth County. Scheid broke the tape in 16:14 in the prestigious competition that draws schools from all over the Garden State to the course that hosts the NJSIAA Meet of Champions. Scheid was named the SCIL/Main Street 5K Boy Runner of the Week. Lenape Valley's Megan Murnane turned in an impressive effort in the varsity girls' E Division 5000-meter run, placing fifth in 20:19. She was chosen the SCIL/Main Street 5K Girl Runner of the Week. Chegwidden sisters 1-2 finish spurs Lady Rangers Published in Straus Newspapers - 10/05/06 Wallkill Valley, led by the Chegwidden sisters, cruised to a first place team finish among the dozen schools in the girls' combined Groups I-II girls' 5000-meter run at the 2006 Maroon Invitational contested at Garret Mountain in West Paterson on Saturday morning. Aimee Chegwidden broke the tape in 19:35 while her younger sister Kaitlin picked up the silver medal with a clocking of 20.41. In the combined Groups I-II boys' varsity 5000-meter run, Wallkill Valley finished first in the team standings. Ian Scott was the first Ranger to finish, crossing the line eighth in 17:30. High Point's Stacey Lepes placed fifth in the Groups III-IV girls' varsity 5000-meter run, turning in a time of 20:35. In the girls' junior varsity competition, High Point's Amanda Porrispita finished sixth with a clocking of 23:47. Wallkill Valley's Aimee Chegwidden turned in the top effort by a local harrier in the 2006 Passaic County Coaches Association Cross-Country Invitational contested at Garret Mountain in West Paterson on Saturday. Chegwidden raced to a bronze medal finish in the Group II Girls Varsity 5000-meter run, crossing the line in 19:40.
