Maguire Athlete of December   Bijan Niknam Previous Honorees

Niknam named Maguire/Sparta Independent Athlete of December Bijan Niknam, oustanding on the lanes and in the academic classroom has been selected the Sparta Independent Athlete of the Month. Ranked No. 1 in the Class of 2007, he currently sports a 232 average, up from the 220 average he posted last winter, as he has fueled Sparta's amazing 67-3 start in the SCIL bowling standings. This season, he has tossed games of 289 and 280 while recording three-game series of 750 and 742 and last Friday finished with a 727 pin fall that included a 264 game. His career-high three game pin count is 805 accumulated on games of 279-245-279. Last year with Niknam bowling a 276 game, the Spartans recorded a single game score of 1239 that was the top scholastic team score in the nation reported to the U.S. Bowling Congress. While he has the talent to aspire to a professional bowling career, he has the brains to continue his game of life as a superstar in business. The future Spartan valedictorian has applied to Brown, Harvard, Princeton and Yale and looks to major in business or linguistics at an Ivy League institution.

Sparta Sports Alumni Notes Lynam named Northeast Conference Runner of the Week Caitlyn Lynam Sparta's Cailin Lynam, a frosh at Monmouth University, has been named the Northeast Conference Women's Cross-Country Rookie of the Week. Lynam finished second in the Monmouth Invitational 5K, posting a clocking of 20:07 as she was six seconds behind the leader.
